Deschutes River Trout Fishing
The Deschutes River is well known as a famous steelhead river, but the locals know that it is also a remarkable trout river, too. It is home to a distinct population of rainbow trout called "Redsides." They are a hard fighting trout that averages 12 to 16 inches in length.

While the resident Redsides are present year round on the Deschutes, the fishing really picks up right about the time our Winter Steelhead season is wrapping up on the North Coast. We head over to Maupin, Oregon and fish the Deschutes from late April through the middle of July.

This time of year the sun is shining, the weather is warm and the trout are looking up. We, and the trout, are targeting prolific hatches of midges, mayflies, caddis and stoneflies. The dry fly fishing can be dynamite.
